The Peoria County Jail Inmate Roster (Illinois) is a public resource that allows you to check if a specific person is in custody at the county jail. PeoriaCourt.us helps find public information about current and recently released inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official website of the Peoria County Sheriff's Office, by calling the information line, or by visiting in person. The roster is maintained by the Corrections Division of the Sheriff's Office, and online records are posted on the Peoria County Records Inquiry portal, which is updated regularly.
Search Current Inmates in Peoria Jail
There are several ways to find out if a person is currently held in the Peoria County Jail.
Online Search
- Visit the Jail & Inmate Information page on the Peoria County website.
- Follow the "Search Jailing Records Online" link — the system will redirect you to the Jailing Records portal, built on the Tyler Technologies platform.
- Enter the person's last name. Optionally, add the first name for a more precise result.
- If you know the booking number, use it — it's the fastest way to a specific record.
The portal also allows you to view Jail Bond Records. A full legal name is required for the search; the system does not recognize nicknames or abbreviated names.
You can also use PeoriaCourt.us to search for publicly available court and jail information.
By Phone
Relatives and friends who suspect that a loved one may be in custody can call the inmate information line:
Phone: (309) 697-7841
The operator will confirm or deny the custody status if you provide the person's full name.
In-Person Visit
Peoria County Jail (Corrections Division of the Sheriff's Office)
Visit the public information window in the facility's lobby. Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster — information about them is handled by a separate Juvenile Detention Center.
Find Peoria Jail Booking Records Online
A booking record is created every time a person is officially admitted to jail. During the registration process, the following are recorded:
- Unique booking number
- Date and time of admission
- Charges presented
- Arresting agency
- Basic identification data of the detainee
To find these records online, use the Jailing Records portal. The sheriff's page with the Public Information section also contains links to the search system. Note: Since late December 2018, the Sheriff's Office has stopped publishing the Daily Commitment Report, but booking records remain available through the online portal.
If you need a document not available in the online database — for example, an older record or a court copy — submit a request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) through the county's FOIA requests page. The Records / Clerical Division of the Sheriff's Office handles such requests.
For individuals transferred to Illinois state facilities, records can be checked through the Individual in Custody Search on the Illinois Department of Corrections website.
Search the Peoria Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number
Two main search methods are available on the Jailing Records portal.
Search by Last Name
Enter the person's last name in the "Last Name" field. The system will return a list of all matches. A few tips:
- Check the spelling — even one incorrect letter can result in no matches.
- If the last name is common (e.g., Smith or Johnson), add the first name to narrow down the selection.
- Try entering only the first few letters of the last name if you're unsure of the full spelling — the portal may support partial searches.
Search by Booking Number
The booking number is a unique identifier assigned during registration. It provides instant access to a specific record without the need to browse the list.
What to Do If the Search Yields No Results
- Ensure you are using the full legal name, not a nickname or shortened form.
- The person may have already been released — the roster primarily reflects those in custody at the time of the request.
- The record may not yet be entered into the system — there is a delay between the actual arrest and the appearance of data on the portal.
- Call the line at (309) 697-7841 to clarify the status directly with jail staff.
- Check the county's warrant list — a warrant may have been issued, but the arrest has not yet occurred.
Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Peoria
The Peoria County Jail online roster is updated regularly but not in real-time. Data on the Public Data Portals is updated nightly in an automated mode. This means that several hours may pass between the time of arrest and the appearance of the record in the system.
Main limitations to be aware of:
- Booking delay. The registration procedure (fingerprinting, photographing, data entry) takes time. The record will appear in the online database only after this process is completed.
- Disappearance of records after release. The roster reflects the current composition of detainees. After release or transfer, a person's record may disappear from the public list.
- This is not an archive. The portal is not a complete database of all former inmates. To obtain historical records, a FOIA request must be submitted to the Sheriff's Office.
- Minors excluded. Data on persons under 18 years old is not published in the public roster.
An official disclaimer on the county's website emphasizes: the information is provided for public convenience and may not reflect the complete picture. For detailed information, you should contact the Corrections Division of the Peoria County Sheriff's Office directly.
